Member Initiative Groups

The association’s various Member Initiative Groups (MIGs) are open to all those in membership. These groups focus on specific subjects and/or geographical areas within the Canadian alternatives industry. Current proposed groups include those below with more to be added as we continue to collect member input.

Member Advisory Panel

This group serves CAASA membership and the industry at large by planning strategic initiatives, providing input on the direction of the association as well as programming that is carried out by the appropriate Member Interest Groups (MIGs) and CAASA staff.

Formed to bring together professionals in the crypto-currency and smart-contract field including: fund managers, exchanges, blockchain consultants, crypto-currency miners, legal and tax experts, AML consultants.

Peer Connect/Mentorship Group (click for more information)

Supporting member activities in areas of women’s advancement, young professionals, and (as a sub-group) CAASA’s Elite Mentoring initiative, this group is a clearinghouse for those looking to give back to the industry as well as an opportunity to gain valuable insights into what is required of them and plan their career.

Advocacy & Governance Group (click for more information)

Composed of legal, compliance, and governance specialists, this group interacts with various regulators and provides updates and guidance to CAASA members on proposed and implemented changes to regulatory requirements and governance standards of investors.

Compliance & Operations Group (click for more information)

This group consists of mid/back-office specialists with fund managers, fund administrations, legal & tax experts, and other consultants.

Fund Ratings/FIRM Group (click for more information)

This initiative group was formed for the CAASA FIRM (Fund Investment Risk Methodology) which was created in response to an industry need for education and training in how (liquid) alternative strategies and private debt (funds) should be understood by Product Specialists, and Investment Advisors and their Clients. Members of this committee will produce industry-leading guideline and guidebooks as to the risk inherent in alternative strategies (liquid alternatives) and assets (private lending).

Investor Group (click for more information)

This group was created in response to investor member requests for an exclusive group where they could speak amongst themselves regarding operations and investment matters particular to their positions and roles. This group meets (in-person and call-in) throughout the year and discusses pre-decided topics and ad hoc areas of interest. (Investors include pension plans, endowments, SWFs, and family offices.)
